May 17

I can hardly believe the school year is almost over! We'll be trying to capture all the fun as the year comes to an end.

The Fun Friday projects this week included a dog snack made from bread covered in PB, chocolate chips for eyes and a nose, crackers for ears. Some of the kids got really creative and designed their own animal face - way to go!

The other project was a paper bag made into either a dog or a cat simply by cutting, pasting and coloring. Again the kids got quite creative and designed their own version of the project . . . awesome!

May 11th

We hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! The kids really enjoyed working on the handprint stepping stones (which can be set outside, or inside on a plate stand) as a surprise for Mother's day.

The past week the kids finished up working on their mother's day cards as well as worked on their paper plate fish project to coordinate with the past week's lessons about the ocean.

Celebrating Earth Week!!

The class celebrated Earth Day this week. . .so Fun Friday was a day all about the same. They ate "dirt" snacks (chocolate ice cream with chocolate crushed cookies as dirt and gummy worms), planted seeds in their own little jar of dirt, and created chicks from thier own photos. Yet another fun day in Ms. Valenti's class!

Bunny Business

HAPPY SPRING BREAK!

In honor of springtime... we had a fun Friday full of bunnies.

We made a bunny basket paper cup as well as a bunny made out of paper plates thanks to a very useful link found here where we also found instructions for the frog craft in the previous post.

Please forgive the horrible photos and my samples that were literally thrown together. Today was quite the busy day!

My favorite item of the day was the bunny bagel. Cream cheese spread overall including the hole in the middle of the bagel; marshmallow mouth, jelly bean nose and eyes (chocolate chips for eyes would work too). The ears were wedges of bagel also covered in cream cheese, topped with pink sprinkles. TOO CUTE!

Hoppy Spring!

A quick rundown of the projects for fun Friday that the class will be doing in honor of the latest addition to the classroom, Mr. Tadpole.

Frog Cupcake Supplies:
- cupcakes
- green tinted frosting
- white wilton candy melts
- green wilton candy melts (optional)
- chocolate chips.

Simple push two wilton candy melts into the top of the frosted cupcake as shown. Add chocolate chips for the eyes. Add green candy melts for eyelids if you like. Ribbit!

We'll also be making paper plate frogs as shown on Danielle's blog. I'm so loving all the ideas she shows!!

Gummy Bears are good for you!

Yes it's true! According to a study conducted at the University of Washington, Gummy Bears are good for your teeth if they're sweetened with the sugar substitute xylitol. Kids who ate these treats 5 days a week showed a significant decrease in the bacteria that causes tooth decay. "It's the type of sugar that bacteria absorbs, but can't derive any energy from it, so it can't reproduce and its numbers in the mouth decreases. Incredible!"

Resources

Just a quick note to answer your questions about the recent additions to the classroom:

The Ladybugs came from:
Hirt's Gardens through amazon.

The Butterflies came from:
Insectlore. I already owned the butterfly 'cage'. Classmates are welcome to borrow it if you like.
